Wildlife Tourism in Kerala
Kerala is known for its numerous unique wildlife species, which are the result of equable climate and singular geographic features. In Kerala, many wildlife and nature reserves were opened for wildlife tourism.The state of Kerala, holds a protected area of 2,324 sq.km in two National Parks and 12 Wildlife Sanctuaries mostly in the Western Ghats. The Western Ghats of Kerala, with its diverse tropical forest ecosystem, with high endemism provides a natural advantage for development of nature and wildlife tourism, both in Government and private sector. Since all of the protected area is under government control, only Government agencies can involve in ground handling Wildlife Tourism. Chinnar Wildlife Sanctuary is located in Devikulam Taluk of Idukki District. It shares its flora and fauna with Anamalai Tiger Reserve, Eravikulam National Park ,Kurinji sanctuary, MarayurSandal Wood forests etc.
